The Honorable Jacques Edouard Alexis, Former Prime Minister of Haiti, Visits Louisville

On Tuesday, April 20, 2010, the World Affairs Council of Kentucky/Southern Indiana will continue its Global Issues Forum series with The Honorable Jacques Edouard Alexis, Former Prime Minister of Haiti. Born in Gonaives, Haiti, happily married and father of five children, Jacques Edouard Alexis went to school initially at Freres de L'Instruction Chretienne (Jesuit Brothers), then to Lycee Toussaint Louverture, Port-au-Prince. He later attended the State University of Haiti where he graduated Suma Cum Laude at the Faculty of Agronomy. Named Professor at his Alma Mater, he was quickly awarded a scholarship by ACDI (Canadian Agency for International Development) to attend Universite Laval, Quebec, Canada, where he highly distinguished himself and obtained his Masters in Food Science and Technology. Upon his return to Haiti, Mr. Alexis was named Director of Studies, then Assistant Dean, and then Dean of the Faculty. In 1996, Mr. Alexis was named Minister of Education by President Preval. Between 1998 and 2001, Mr. Alexis served as Prime Minister of Haiti. In 2006, President Preval was reelected. He then called again upon Jacques-Edouard Alexis to be his Prime Minister. Mr. Alexis served through August 2008.
