World Affairs Council Elects New Executive Director Xiao Yin Zhao to Lead Organization

February 22, 2012 (Louisville, Ky) - World Affairs Council of Kentucky and Southern Indiana has promoted Xiao Yin Zhao to Executive Director. Zhao started with the organization as Program Manager of its International Visitor Program a year and a half ago and was responsible for coordinating international visitors brought to the region through federally funded programs including the US Dept. of State, Library of Congress and USAID. In her new role, Zhao will manage the day to day operations of the organization including overseeing events, fundraising and community relations for the organization. 

 Prior to joining the World Affairs Council, Zhao worked in the areas of corporate social responsibility at Jones Apparel Group, Ford Institute for Human Security and the Citizens for Global Solutions, all based in Pennsylvania.

 “I’m excited to lead this organization and to see how we can make an even bigger impact on our community as it relates to international affairs,” said Zhao. “In today’s world it benefits all to think globally and the World Affairs Council strives to build relationships with locals and international visitors as well as offer educational opportunities and programming on global topics.”

Zhao took part in the University of Pittsburgh’s doctoral program for International Affairs and received her B.A. in Political Economics from Barnard College, Columbia University. Zhao is fluent in Chinese and has taught English in Wuhan, China. She currently resides in Louisville with her husband and two children.
