Speaker Series

Global Issues Forum

A major focus of World Affairs Councils nationwide is the presentation in their communities of quality programs offering the general public the opportunity to participate in discussions of current international issues.

The World Affairs Council of Kentucky and Southern Indiana achieves this goal through the Global Issues Forum and its companion series the WAC Presents Series. The Global Issues Forum series was initiated in the fall of 2005 and is supported by a grant from Brown-Forman Corporation.

The series brings to Kentucky and Southern Indiana internationally-known experts on current global issues and is held in the Kentucky Center for the Performing Arts on a semi-monthly basis. The first event in the series involved the French Ambassador to the United States on December 12, 2005. That event, as will other events in the series, included a public lecture by the Ambassador, followed by a smaller dinner event also held at the Kentucky Center.

Previous events in the Global Issues Forum have featured:

  • Ambassador for France to the US, Jean-David Levitte
  • Laurie Garrett, Award-Winning Journalist and expert on World Plagues
  • Lee Hamilton, former Congressman and Vice-Chair of the 9/11 Commission

The World Affairs Council is grateful for the support of Brown-Forman for this exciting series.
