Did you know that our 13 students were selected out of an application pool of 19,000!?

Louisville is hosting thirteen out of fifty Brazil Youth Ambassador students (the other 37 will be spending their time in Pensacola, Reno and Tulsa). Youth Ambassador students are in the United States to learn about “Social Justice and Volunteerism” and are spending their evenings/weekends in Louisville with incredible volunteer host families!

These 13 talented, driven students are from all different corners of Brazil and represent the extremely diverse and friendly nature of their home country. Not only did students do their research about Louisville, but they came prepared with a “Louisville Anthem” which they performed in front of the giant Louisville Slugger Bat!

“Brazil Youth Ambassadors” is a program of the U.S. Embassy of Brazil and made possible by the partnership between the Embassy, World Learning, and World Affairs Council of Kentucky & Southern Indiana! There are also opportunities for U.S. students to travel abroad as Youth Ambassadors, so check out the World Learning website for more details or contact us!

Our students are exploring issues of social justice and volunteerism in the United States. They will be attending meetings with advocacy groups, talking with community leaders, engaging in workshops with local high school youth, and building their arsenal of ideas, skills, and tools to complete their own projects when they return to their home communities!

Students are meeting with:

  • ACLU of Kentucky
  • Adelante Hispanic Achievers
  • Catholic Charities of Louisville, Migration and Refugee Services
  • Christopher 2x
  • Fairness Campaign
  • International Center for Compassionate Organizations
  • Louisville Collegiate School
  • Monica Lakhwani, JCPS Multicultural Specialist
  • Muhammad Ali Center and UCREW students
  • The Table
  • UofL Urban Planning with Dr. John Gilderbloom
