We help students to expand their world through a variety of our programs: the state-wide Academic WorldQuest™ Competition, opportunities to study/research abroad through the Hershberg Scholarship, and easy access to our speaker and visitor programs. In doing so, we provide educators and schools with the resources to prepare students to meet their cultural competency goals and to be global citizens for the international challenges of tomorrow.

Academic WorldQuest™

Each year, World Affairs Councils around the United States host Academic WorldQuest competitions for high school students. Academic WorldQuest™ tests players’ knowledge of current international politics, geography, global economics, history, and world cultures.

The World Affairs Council of Kentucky and Southern Indiana hosts students from the Kentuckiana area to participate each Spring. Teams of four (4) study for a chance to compete on the national level in Washington D.C. against other regional winners.

Euro Challenge

Euro Challenge is a competition about the currency and policies that shape the European Union (EU). It is for 9th and 10th grade students across the United States. After competing in regional contests, 25 teams will be invited to participate in the semi-finals and final rounds in New York City on April 27th, 2026.

Student teams work on a presentation about the economics of the euro currency area and tackle a specific challenge faced by a member state of the EU. They become policymakers crafting solutions to a topical issue and give a 15-minute presentation in front of expert judges.

Teams invited to the semi-final and final rounds in New York City present to diplomats and experts. The top two teams win a trip to Washington D.C., where they present to embassy officials from EU member state they analyzed and visit the European Union Delegation to the United States.
