A $100,000 Gift Expands the Hershberg Legacy
For more than 40 students, the David Hershberg Fund has opened doors to international study and research. Thanks to a remarkable new gift from the Hershberg family, that legacy will continue for generations to come.
The World Affairs Council of Kentucky & Southern Indiana is honored to announce a $100,000 gift from the Hershberg family in memory of Roberta Hershberg. The gift doubles the fund’s original endowment, which will be renamed the David and Roberta Hershberg Fund.
The expanded fund will continue supporting study and research abroad while extending its reach to other global education and exchange opportunities for young people.
“David and Roberta believed deeply in international exchange,” shared a member of the Hershberg family. “They led year-abroad programs and frequently welcomed international students and visitors into their home. Roberta continued that tradition enthusiastically after David’s death and often spoke about the wonderful people she met. We grew up welcoming guests from around the world. We have all gained so much from those relationships and hope this gift will allow more young people to experience the same connection and discovery.”
The Hershberg family’s generosity is also a reminder that WAC’s future depends on individuals who choose to invest in its mission. Building on this momentum, WAC is preparing to launch its first Individual Giving Campaign to strengthen the organization’s long-term sustainability and ensure its work continues for generations to come.
“We are tremendously grateful to the Hershberg family for this generous gift and the trust it represents,” said WAC President Xiao Yin Zhao. “Their generosity honors an extraordinary legacy while giving us momentum for the next chapter of our work, ensuring that lifelong learning and global understanding remain at the heart of our community. As part of its broader philanthropic effort, WAC is introducing the Founding Circle - an inaugural group of supporters helping build a sustainable culture of giving for the organization.
