Guardrails of Democracy: Why Global Justice Matters
Join the World Affairs Council for a special luncheon program featuring Judge Mark L. Wolf, whose decades-long career on the U.S. District Court for Massachusetts has been marked by his dedication to justice and ethical governance.
As highlighted in The New York Times, Judge Wolf recently stepped down from the federal bench to focus on advancing the creation of an International Anti-Corruption Court (IACC) — an ambitious global initiative aimed at holding powerful officials accountable and strengthening the rule of law worldwide.
Drawing on his extensive judicial and prosecutorial experience, Judge Wolf will discuss the motivations behind his decision, the challenges of enforcing justice across borders, and the promise and complexity of building new international mechanisms for accountability.
This program offers a unique opportunity for Council members, civic leaders, legal professionals, and globally engaged citizens to hear directly from a jurist at the forefront of reimagining how nations can work together to combat corruption and promote transparency.
About the Speaker
Judge Mark L. Wolf is a former Senior U.S. District Judge for the District of Massachusetts and served as Chief Judge from 2006 to 2012. Over his distinguished career, Judge Wolf has earned national recognition for his work prosecuting public corruption and advancing judicial integrity.
In 2014, through the Brookings Institution, he proposed the creation of an International Anti-Corruption Court (IACC) — a global tribunal designed to prosecute kleptocrats and recover stolen assets when national systems fail to act. Building on this vision, Judge Wolf co-founded Integrity Initiatives International (III) in 2016 to unite governments, civil society leaders, and Nobel laureates in support of the court’s establishment.
Judge Wolf’s ongoing work reflects his belief that combating grand corruption is vital to protecting democracy, strengthening the rule of law, and ensuring accountable governance worldwide.
